Tour de Kosovo 2010

The Gëzuar Tour de Kosovo Sportive will take place 15-20 September and is designed as a three-day ride which will enable cyclists from the UK to experience cycling in Kosovo.

Despite declaring Independence in February 2008 there are still many challenges facing Kosovo.  By riding the Tour de Kosovo Sportive you will be assisting the development of cycling in the country.  Importantly, the Tour will also help raise awareness of Kosovo’s ongoing development needs and opportunities that exist there.

The Tour provides a real challenge for riders of all abilities and has been designed to attract both competitive and recreational cyclists from the UK.  The ride has also been designed to enable cyclists from Kosovo to get involved and take part.

The Tour de Kosovo Sportive provides a unique opportunity to visit the world's newest nation-state and admire its breathtakingly beautiful scenery and fascinating cultural treasures. Kosovo is an intriguing place, full of paradoxes and surprises for any first time visitor. Embarking on the Tour de Kosovo will be not only an exciting but also a fulfilling experience.

The Tour will take place on open roads in a country where cycling has low participation rates. In consequence, the Tour will benefit by a large on-road support team which will provide a lead car that will be just ahead of the lead rider(s), rear vehicle which will communicate to oncoming traffic of the ride and a number of motorcycle outriders performing a range of support tasks.

The route for the Tour de Kosovo has been designed in consultation with the Kosovo Government and British Embassy and with reference to UK Foreign Office views on the overall security of Kosovo.

The Tour has been designed to provide three days of riding challenge.  Each stage is 100 miles (160 kilometres) long and provides a genuine challenge and one which will leave you with lasting memories of this fascinating country.

Although the Tour is based on Sportive principles, there will be prizes awarded on the final day for:

  • First ten finishers overall
  • First five teams overall
  • First 20 women
  • Top ten climbers overall
